In a searing rebuke delivered on the Senate floor Tuesday afternoon, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) unleashed a pointed attack on former President Donald J. Trump, accusing him of using his political influence to enrich himself and his family at the expense of the American people.
The moment came during a heated debate over new ethics legislation aimed at preventing elected officials from engaging in personal business dealings while in office. Senator Warren, a longtime critic of corporate greed and political corruption, didn’t mince words when addressing Trump’s track record.
“Let’s stop pretending he was ever about America First,” Warren declared. “He was always about Trump First Trump’s business, Trump’s brand, Trump’s family fortune. You’re not making America great. You’re making your own business and your family great, while the rest of the country pays the price.”
The senator’s remarks drew gasps from the chamber and sent shockwaves across political and media circles. While Trump no longer holds office, his influence continues to dominate the Republican Party, with his political action committees, luxury properties, and branded business ventures reportedly raking in millions since leaving the White House.
Senator Warren pointed to recent revelations that members of the Trump family received millions through foreign deals and speaking engagements while their father was in office raising new questions about conflicts of interest and abuse of power.
“It’s a national disgrace that a man who swore to serve the people spent more time serving his own portfolio,” Warren continued. “Our democracy is not for sale, and it certainly isn’t a marketing tool for overpriced golf clubs and reality TV.”
Warren’s comments are the latest in a growing movement within Congress calling for stricter financial disclosure requirements for current and former officeholders. Many lawmakers, especially in the progressive wing, argue that the Trump era exposed deep ethical vulnerabilities that must be addressed.

Republicans swiftly condemned Warren’s remarks, calling them “divisive” and “politically motivated,” while Democrats and ethics watchdogs praised the speech for “telling hard truths” that Americans need to hear.
While Trump himself has yet to respond to the senator’s fiery speech, his aides issued a brief statement accusing Democrats of “obsessing over the past instead of solving today’s problems.”
Still, for many Americans, Warren’s words resonated as a stark reminder of the blurred lines between political power and personal profit and a warning about what’s at stake if those lines are not redefined.
